Where Have You Gone, Sarah Palin?

We know she's separated from her husband Todd. Separated is code for divorced without the legal ability to do it -- rarely do separated people make a genuine effort to reconcile. No one expects Todd to try.

We know daughter Bristol divorced her husband. Her own life looks like a train wreck, but to her credit, she bounces back and had the guts not to abort her kids. That would've made her life easier at first glance, and she even received pressure to do so, but she pressed on.

We know son Trig was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, and like many children of divorces, will be the one most screwed by Todd's decision.

We know her 15 minutes of fame is closing.

Sarah Palin says she can beat Barack Obama

"Republicans are talking openly about President Obama's vulnerability for re-election in 2012, and one of them is Sarah Palin."

Apparently, the Republican Party believes she would lose. Sarah responded:

"Then perhaps they should vent some of their paranoia toward all of the potential G.O.P. candidates. Because obviously there's no guarantee that any one of us would win. But I do believe that much of this is a threat to their hierarchy, because I've never shied away from a battle and because I'll put principle before politics."

Sarah has not made up her mind. Previously dismissed by liberal voters, she has become a force. Despite poor interviews in the run-up to the 2008 election, despite that she has been parodied and mocked, many voters are finding she represents their views. Beyond the hyperbole of talk shows, her voting audience is increasing.

Can she beat Barack Obama? In 2008, no. In 2012? She thinks so. Just as her appeal to voters, both classic conservatives and Republicans, increases, President Obama's appeal is decreasing among independent voters.

With George Bush out of office and pushing his book, Decision Points, and Obama now responsible for his tenure in office, the ownership of problems has shifted.


Bush blaming still exists by the partisan of Obama supporters, but many are realizing and agreeing with Bush's stand on some things.


* We are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. Men and women are still dying. Just as Bush declared the war over too early, so has Obama. Not until ever soldier is sage is the war over.
* We see the threar of Iran and North Korea more acutely.
* Health care, per Obama's plan, confuses and concerns the average voter.
* The unemployment rate is embarrassingly high for Obama, whose efforts have not broughts results.
* The American economy, including the housing market, suffers.

Whether Sarah can win or not is one question. Whether she will influence the race is not a question. The Republicans will take women seriously. The Democrats will realize Hillary is not the only woman out there, that a woman can be feminine and strong. Both parties will realize partisan politics builds no bridges -- neither Bush nor Obama were in anyway bridge-builders.

Looking beyond the hate-speech delivered by blog world, the laughing at Bristol Palin's miraculous survival on Dancing with the Stars, and the incredulous fame-seeking continued self-lampooning by Bristol's ex, Levi Johnston, Sarah has thrived.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Sarah Palin says she's not a quitter, she's a fighter, but adds that, politically speaking, "if I die, I die. So be it."

The Alaska governor spoke in taped interviews on ABC, NBC and CNN broadcast Tuesday morning.

She told CNN that "all options are on the table" for her future.

But told ABC's "Good Morning America" that she recognizes she might not have political staying power after her surprise resignation Friday, which came just as she had been expected to elevate her national profile ahead of a possible 2012 GOP presidential run.

"I said before ... 'You know, politically speaking, if I die, I die. So be it,'" she said.

Governor Sarah Palin made history on Dec. 4, 2006, when she took office. As the 11th governor of Alaska, she is the first woman to hold the office.

Since taking office, her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development.

Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaska’s Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.

During her first legislative session, Governor Palin’s administration passed two major pieces of legislation – an overhaul of the state’s ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline.

Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee.

Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry.

She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska's communities.

Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. She received a bachelor of science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. Palin, who graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, has lived in Skagway, Eagle River and Wasilla.

She is married to Todd Palin, who is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world's longest snowmachine race.

Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children – Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Through Todd’s Yup'ik grandmother, Alaska’s Native heritage plays an important role in their family. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007.

Prior to taking office, Palin served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the state. She was active in her family’s pursuits – including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons.

Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoys hunting, fishing, Alaska history, and all that Alaska's great outdoors has to offer.
